Chick Flicks Rating System

Just like these beautiful people, we love watching movies. In fact, at Chick Flicks on Blu-ray, we love them so much that when we review them, we rate them twice!
Since ratings are so subjective, we thought you might like us to explain ourselves and our crazy rating system(s). Take a look at the definitions below.
The 5 (Pink) Star Rating System
We use the standard 5 star rating system (albeit pink) to give an overall ranking to each of the following five components of a Blu-ray movie experience:
Movie Here, we’ll give you a gist of what the film is about – no spoilers and no plotline play-by-plays, we hate those! – as well as our impressions on acting, character development and all that good stuff.
Audio Ever spend more time adjusting the volume level on your TV than you do watching the movie? Well we’ll let you know if that”s happening along with any other audio highs and lows.
Video We can’t help ourselves – our big-ass TV has turned us into video quality snobs. Expect our reviews to be a little temperamental when there’s graininess in the picture and to extol or lament a movie’s colour palette.
Special Features Like the Goldilocks of movies, too many special features isn’t good and neither is too little. We”ll let you know when a movie gets it juuuust right.
Overall Once we”re done with the four criteria listed above, we’ll give our rating on the whole Blu-ray movie package. Is it science? No. But we like it anyway.
The Chick Flick Stamp of Approval (or Dis-Approval)
Okay, the star rating system is good and is time-tested and all that, but we also wanted something a little bit more grabby. We wanted to put our opinions on chick flicks right there in your FACE! (Is that wrong? Sorry. Sometimes we get a little wound up.)
That’s why we developed our Chick Flick Stamp of Approval rating system. We”ll tell you not only how good a movie is with our star rating system, but also exactly whom you should watch it with for maximum enjoyment with our Stamp of Approval. Why do we do it, you ask? It”s because we care! Here”s our other rating system explained:
“S” for Skip It This one’s pretty self explanatory. If a movie’s a stink-bomb, we want you to know it. Not that that means we think you can’t judge for yourself – of course you can, and in fact, you should, and then tell us about it! We’ll bring popcorn! But we just wanted to give you a heads up if we think a film won’t be winning an Oscar any time soon, in case you want to save yourself the trouble.
“BF” for Boyfriend Friendly There is nothing worse than watching a chick flick with your boyfriend / spouse / friend of the male persuasion / random guy you met on the bus, when he is clearly not going to be into it. At best he’ll complain loudly about boredom and at worst he’ll give his best standup routine and mock the movie the whole way through (read: Dirty Dancing Blu-ray Review. We can help prevent that with our Boyfriend Friendly stamp of approval, stamped only on chick flicks that a guy could tolerate comfortably or even – shock! – enjoy.
“G” for Girls Night Bring on the ladies and the cocktails, it’s time for a Girls Movie Night! The itinerary includes a chick flick on Blu-ray (we recommend something with Kate Hudson on the cover), some great martini mixes and a box of bakery-fresh cookies or some other delicious snack for when the late-night munchies hit. Are you going to see much of this movie in between the forthcoming girl-talk and gossip? Probably not. Does it matter? Not a bit!
“BFF” for Best Friend Worthy Okay, there are chick flicks you can watch with the ladies and then there are chick flicks where you”d rather forego the cocktails and the witty banter of a Girls Night and really get into the movie – box of tissue optional. These are the movies you should share with only your nearest and dearest, and we’re happy to recommend them for you and your BFF.

Yup, we love movies and home theatre, but guess who gets to hold the remote?
